After obtaining the residence permit in Spain, you are eligible for Spanish citizenship. This means that any person holding the status of resident in good standing of Spain for an uninterrupted period of ten (10) years can obtain Spanish citizenship. With the exception of Latin American citizens, Andorrans, Portuguese and members of the Sephardic Jewish community, who have the right to Spanish citizenship after two (2) years of legal residence in Spain.
As in most countries, obtaining Spanish citizenship implies the renunciation of previous or original nationality, but this does not apply to Latin American, Andorran and Portuguese citizens.
